Aims: To improve students’ total literacy skills
so that
• they can write in a diverse number of ways in response to a
variety of needs.
• they learn to read in a variety of genres requiring differing
skills.
Format: Currently each course consists of six
modules. During the course the student will cover the
following components:
¨ writing skills
¨ reading comprehension
¨ vocabulary enrichment and word usage
¨ grammar, punctuation and parts of speech
An overall theme for each course (e.g places, actions) will
enhance general knowledge. Reading and writing should be done
in a context to have meaning.
Courses may be taken individually, but a sequence of courses
will provide ongoing tuition for those who wish to pursue English
development, over a period of time.
We have had many students enrol in all four courses at the same
year level and have made great progress this way. A student
may also take a course with the same theme eg Action at both 3/4
and 5/6 levels as the content is quite different.
